We celebrate the life of an exemplary attorney, and an even better man. Mr. Richard (“Dick”) Cornelius Roberts who passed away on March 25, 2021, at the age of 83.
Mr. Roberts started practicing law in Paducah with the law firm Waller, Threlkeld & Whitlow in 1963, and actively practiced law with that firm and its successors, most recently, Whitlow, Roberts, Houston and Straub. Roberts became of counsel at the firm in 2009. He remained an active part of the firm until his passing.
A graduate of Yale Law School, Mr. Roberts was a legal scholar and brilliant mind. In addition to his successful legal practice, Mr. Roberts understood the importance of using his talents and skills to serve his community. Mr. Roberts was active in many non-profit organizations and served on many Boards throughout his career.
Mr. Roberts was an active and devoted member of the Paducah Kiwanis Club. In September 2020, he was recognized with the Kiwanis Club Distinguished Service Award to honor his “visionary guidance, unconditional commitment and dedicated service.” He served as President in 1972 and again in 1995, was named Kiwanian of the Year in 1968 and received the Hixon Award in 2015.
He was founder and first president of the Paducah Symphony Orchestra, and thereafter served as director and trustee of the organization’s endowment fund.
We will miss our loyal friend, servant leader and colleague, and continue to celebrate his life by following the example he set.
