Richard
C. Roberts was born November 3, 1937, in Paducah, Kentucky. He was graduated by the
University of Kentucky with a B.A. in Economics (high distinction) in 1959, and by Yale
Law School (National Moot Court Team) with an L.L.B. in 1962. Mr. Roberts primarily litigates cases and prepares and evaluates cases for litigation. He tries and mediates cases, and does appellate work in state and federal courts. He has practiced most types of personal injury cases, including motor vehicle, products liability, professional liability, toxic tort, and civil rights litigation. Commercial litigation experience includes construction, employment, and anti-trust claims. He has practiced a wide variety of maritime and admiralty cases, and worked on insurance coverage, interpretation, and bad faith issues. He belongs to the McCracken County Bar Association (past president), Kentucky Bar Association (Board of Governors for six years, numerous committees, and presently a member of its Ethics Committee and Ethics Hotline), American Bar Association (Litigation Section), is a Fellow of American College of Trial Lawyers, International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, Kentucky Defense Counsel (its first president), and Maritime Law Association. Mr. Roberts is admitted to practice in all state courts of Kentucky, United States District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Kentucky, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. He has presented programs at local and state bar association meetings regarding indemnity and contribution, punitive damages, advocacy, and ethics. Mr. Roberts was reared in Paducah and has practiced law there since the completion of his formal education and military service. He has been active in numerous civic and church affairs, including United Way (past campaign chair), Broadway United Methodist Church (past chair of administrative board and current Sunday school teacher at Grace Episcopal Church), and Paducah Symphony Orchestra (first President and current member of Board of Directors). He is a member of Kiwanis International (Legion of Honor, twice local president) |
