Mrs. Higdon concentrates her practice in the areas of workers' compensation litigation, defending employers throughout Kentucky. Mrs. Higdon also has experience in the areas of transportation litigation and employment ligitation.

Mrs. Higdon was admitted to the Kentucky Bar and the Bar of the Western District of Kentucky in 2005.
Experience
Mrs. Higdon regularly practices before Kentucky Administrative Law Judges. Since 2006 she has defended employers regularly appearing at Department of Workers' Claims hearing sites in Paducah, Madisonville, Owensboro, Bowling Green, Louisville and Lexington. She has also represented the interests of employers at the Department of Workers' Claims hearing sites in Florence, London, Hazard, Pikeville and Ashland.
With respect to appellate practice, Mrs. Higdon has presented written argument advocating on behalf of employers to the Workers' Compensation Board, the Kentucky Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Kentucky.
Mrs. Higdon has practiced with Whitlow, Roberts, Houston & Straub, PLLC since February 2006 as an associate and became a member of the firm on January 1, 2012.
Before Whitlow, Roberts, Houston & Straub, PLLC, Mrs. Higdon worked as an associate for a regional defense firm, where she practiced in the areas of workers' compensation litigation, personal injury defense, construction litigation and medical malpractice defense.
Background
Mrs. Higdon is a native of western Kentucky and resides in Paducah. Prior to receiving her law degree Mrs. Higdon enjoyed a succeessful career as the workers' compensation coordinator for a large trucking company located in western Kentucky. She was responsible for claims and litigation management, and has made good use of this experience as an attorney defending claims for employers.
Mrs. Higdon also worked as a paralegal with Whitlow, Roberts, Houston & Straub from 1999-2001, in the areas of medical malpractice, workers'compensation, and personal injury defense.
Education
Mrs. Higdon is a 1993 graduate of Murray State University and earned a B.S. with a major in Occupational Safety and Health Engineering. In 2005, she earned her Juris Doctor from Northern Kentucky University, Salmon P. Chase College of Law. While attending Salmon P. Chase College of Law, Ms. Thompson authored Hostile Work Environment Disability Harassment under the ADA, 73 UMKC L. Rev., 715 (2005).
Associations and Service
Sharlott is a member of the McCracken County Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association, and the American Bar Association (Labor and Employment Law Section). She served as Secretary-Treasurer of the McCracken Bar Association in 2008-2009.
Presently, Mrs. Higdon serves on the board and executive board of the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County. She served as the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County campaign co-chair during 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. Sharlott will serve as President of the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County for 2012-2013.
Mrs. Higdon is a graduate of the Leadership Paducah Class 23. Sharlott also supports her community through the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce and various charitable organizations.
