Practice Areas
Mr. Straub's practice involves almost exclusively litigation, with a primary emphasis upon the defense of medical malpractice claims and insurance defense, including automobile accident litigation, employment litigation, premises liability litigation, and workers' compensation litigation. He serves as counsel for both public entities and private landowners in proceedings involving eminent domain.
Licenses
He was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 1980. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Experience
Mr. Straub has defended insureds for several different insurance companies. He has served as lead counsel in more than one hundred thirty jury trials involving various types of claims.
Mr. Straub has maintained a current understanding of the Kentucky Workers' Compensation Act, through a number of amendments, and in 1995, served on a committee which assisted the Workers' Compensation Board in revising its rules and regulations.
Background
Rick was born in Paducah, Kentucky. He joined Whitlow, Roberts, Houston & Straub, PLLC, in August 1980 and has practiced continuously with the firm since that time.
Education
Mr. Straub's undergraduate education was obtained at Centre College of Kentucky (B.A., 1977) and his legal education at the University of Kentucky College of Law (J.D., 1980). He served as a Member of Staff, Kentucky Law Journal, from 1978 to 1980.
Associations and Service
Rick is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers; a member of the McCracken County Bar Association, Kentucky Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Kentucky Defense Counsel (Board of Directors, 1991-1995).
Annually, Mr. Straub serves as a speaker at risk management seminars sponsored by medical malpractice insurers. He also has spoken at legal seminars on various topics, including practice management..
